FENSA and CERTASS
Competent Person Schemes
Choosing a window or door installer means trusting someone to get your building regulations right, not just your glass and frames. That is exactly what FENSA and CERTASS are there to check. Both are government-authorised Competent Person Schemes that monitor building regulation compliance for replacement windows and doors, and every Approved Installer, from the largest national brands down to smaller local companies like us, is assessed regularly to make sure standards are kept up.
We have been founder members of FENSA since 2002.
What membership requires us to give you
Being registered with schemes such as FENSA and CERTASS means we have to provide you with:
- Protection for any deposit you pay us before work starts
- A guarantee covering the completed installation
- An insurance policy to cover that guarantee if we were ever to stop trading
- Installation teams who are suitably qualified and regularly assessed
Your deposit protection and your insurance-backed guarantee are both provided by QANW, so you are covered from the moment you pay your deposit right through to the end of your guarantee period, even if something happened to us.

Our registration details
- Our FENSA registration number is 15058
- Our CERTASS account number is 23-1320.
What your certificate confirms
Once your installation is complete, we register it with either FENSA or CERTASS on your behalf. You will then receive your certificate directly from whichever scheme covers the job, so keep it somewhere safe, because you will need to produce it if you ever come to sell your home.
Your certificate confirms:
- Compliance with building regulations
- That your installation is energy efficient
- Registration with your local council
- That our guarantee is insured
- Proof of a job done properly, which you will need when selling the property
Keeping standards up
Both FENSA and CERTASS carry out random inspections on a percentage of an installer’s work, to check it meets the standards required.

FAQ
What is FENSA?
FENSA is a government-authorised scheme that checks replacement window and door installations against building regulations. It lets a registered installer like us self-certify the work and register it with your local council, so you do not need a separate building control inspection. We’ve been part of FENSA since it was set up in 2002.

What is CERTASS?
CERTASS is the other government-authorised scheme covering the same ground as FENSA for window and door installations. Whichever scheme an installer belongs to, you get the same protection: building regulations compliance, an insured guarantee, and a certificate to prove it. We are registered with both.

Do I need to keep my FENSA or CERTASS certificate?
Yes. It is your proof that the work met building regulations, and solicitors usually ask to see it when you come to sell your home. Keep it somewhere safe with your other house paperwork.
What happens if my installer is not FENSA or CERTASS registered?
You would need to arrange your own building control sign-off, which usually means extra time and cost. It is worth checking an installer’s registration before you book any work, and we are always happy to talk you through ours.
Do I need separate building control approval for new windows or doors?
Not if your installer is FENSA or CERTASS registered, like us. Building control approval is what your local council would normally need to check the work is safe and compliant. Because we’re registered, we self-certify it instead, without you needing a separate council application or inspection.
What if I'm selling my home and don't have a FENSA or CERTASS certificate?
If the work was properly registered at the time, FENSA or CERTASS can usually issue a replacement certificate within a few weeks. If it was never registered, your solicitor may suggest either indemnity insurance or applying to your council for retrospective approval, so it’s worth sorting out well before you want to complete.
What can you help me with?
Being FENSA and CERTASS registered is part of a bigger picture: it is the standard everything we install is held to. Here is a quick look at what that covers.
uPVC and aluminium windows in a range of styles, from flush casements to traditional sash designs.
Composite, uPVC and aluminium front doors, plus bifold and sliding doors for the back of the house.
New conservatories and orangeries, built to suit your home and garden.
A solid, insulated roof to replace an existing conservatory roof that has become too hot in summer or too cold to use properly in winter.
Roof lanterns and rooflights can provide extra natural light for extensions, kitchens and garden rooms.
Solar control and self-cleaning glass, plus blinds built safely inside the glass itself, with no cords or slats to keep clean.
